Soluble nickel chemicals such as nickel sulphate and nickel chloride are essential feedstocks to the nickel plating processes. Electroplating and electroless plating cannot be done without them. As such, they are essential intermediates in the production of final nickel-containing products. These and other nickel chemicals are also intermediates in the production of nickel-containing catalysts, other nickel chemicals and certain coloured glasses and ceramic glazes.
Nickel chemicals are used directly in nickel cadmium (NiCd) and nickel metal hydride (NiMH) rechargeable batteries as well as in ferrites and thermistors in the electronics industry.
Organic nickel compounds are reported to be used as additives in paint and plastics.
