Stainless Steel in the Water Industry
Welcome to the Nickel Institute's web portal for the drinking/potable and waste water treatment industry.
Here, you will find information which will help you to select, fabricate, use and recycle nickel-containing
materials that come into contact with water.
Stainless steels are used throughout the water industry to handle a wide range of waters and effluents. They
can be used very cost-effectively in drinking/potable
water and waste water treatment, water distribution and plumbing systems, and desalination.
Stainless steels can offer advantages over other materials in terms
of corrosion resistance without the need for coatings; very high water flow rates; weight saving; ease of fabrication and transport; recyclability. In turn these can
lead to long lives and low life cycle costs. Metal leaching into the
water is extremely low.

The Nickel Institute also participants in a water industry marketing group based in the United States. Called
Stop Pipe Leaks, Ask for Stainless Help (SPLASH), this group of suppliers, fabricators, equipment
manufacturers and metals associations maintains a web site at www.s-p-l-a-s-h.org
Nickel-containing materials have many uses in other industries: please explore these by using the navigational buttons in the upper righthand corner of this page.
