Government Agencies and General Information

  • U.S. National Toxicology Program (NTP)
    The NTP conducts acute, subchronic, carcinogenicity, reproductive, and developmental studies of commercial materials suspected of posing a high risk of toxicity/carcinogenicity to the general public. Results from the NTP carcinogenicity studies of nickel sulfate hexahydrate, "green" nickel oxide, and nickel subsulfide can be found at this site. 

  • California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA)
    The mission of the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) is to improve environmental quality in rder to protect public health, the welfare of our citizens, and California's natural resources. Cal/EPA will achieve its mission in an equitable, efficient, and cost-effective manner. 

  • World Health Organization (WHO)
    WHO proposes conventions, agreements, and regulations and makes recommendations about international nomenclature of diseases, causes of death and public health practices. It develops, establishes and promotes international standards concerning foods and biological, pharmaceutical and similar substances. 

  • The International Programme on Chemical Safety (IPCS)
    The International Programme on Chemical Safety or IPCS established in 1980, is a joint programme of three Cooperating Organizations, ILO, UNEP and WHO, implementing activities related to chemical safety. IPCS is an intersectoral coordinated and scientifically based programme. WHO is the Executing Agency of the IPCS.  

  • IARC
    The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) was established in 1965 by the World Health Organization. IARC's mission is to coordinate and conduct research on the causes of human cancer, and to develop scientific strategies for cancer control. The Agency is involved in both epidemiological and laboratory research, and disseminates scientific information through meetings, publications, courses and fellowships. 

  • Natural Resources Canada
    As the predominant natural resource department of the Canadian federal government, NRCan has a mandate to promote the sustainable development and responsible use of Canada's mineral, energy and forestry resources, and to develop an understanding of Canada's landmass. This mandate is delivered by the department's 5350 full-time employees (referred to as FTEs) located in offices across Canada with a total budget for 1994-95 of approximately $1 billion. 

  • Chamber of Mines of South Africa
    The objective of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa is to advance, promote and protect the mining and other interests of its members. 

  • Central European Environmental. Data Request Facility (CEDAR)
    In 1991, the International Society for Environmental Protection (ISEP) was selected by the Austrian Ministry forthe Environment to administer CEDAR, the Central European Environmental Data Request Facility. CEDAR provides computingand Internet work facilities to support international data exchange with the Central and Eastern European environmentalcommunity. In 1992, CEDAR began to work with the United Nations Environmental Programme's NFOTERRA Network, UNEP'sglobal information exchange programme to support environmental information dissemination.
