Condenser and Heat Exchanger Performance (14006)
By Arthur H. Tuthill, reprinted from Power Engineering, Jun 1985. Little attention has been given to the important effect of low velocities on condenser and heat exchanger tubing performance. In particular, debris play a critical role in inlet-end erosion-corrosion, and sedimentation left unremoved significantly hinders heat transfer. Low velocity is frequently lost sight of in the rush to retube and get a unit back on stream, and so failures tend to repeat.
