Decorative Nickel Plating (10050)
By Dr. S. Alec Watson, Dec 1990. Electrodeposited nickel plays the key role in several decorative metal finishing systems where it is used in combination with chromium, brass, silver, gold, and lacquers. Since the nickel-chromium finish is the most widely used and is also subjected to the most arduous conditions of service, a lot of attention has been given to the discovery of implementation of ways of ensuring nickel chromium coatings having high durability. This report covers the subject under headings of these finishes: nickel, nickel plus brass, nickel plus silver, nickel plus gold, and nickel plus chromium. Also dealt with are the resistance to corrosion of nickel-chromium, importance of nickel thickness, copper undercoats, and double-layer or duplex nickel.
