Did You Know?
. . . that stainless steel is highly recycled because of the valuable nickel it contains? It's a Natural Nickel Fact

Nickel Magazine, November, 2005 -- Nickel-containing stainless steels are one of the most
recycled materials in the world.
That's because, of all the elements that go into stainless steels (iron, chromium, nickel and molybdenum to
name a few), nickel is the one that is of most value.
One of the keys to sustainable use is recyclability.
Metals which are used to make products today are still available to be used by future generations. Metals are
not consumed -- they are being used and can be reused.
At the end of their useful life, collected nickel-containing products can be reused or recycled -- over and
over again.
That's because, unlike many other materials, alloys such as stainless steel can be recycled without degrading
their properties. Therefore, their full value to society is preserved in perpetuity.
"Recyclable" for metals and alloys is the environmental equivalent of "renewable" for forests.
Following, is a list of links to web pages, managed by the Nickel Institute, that provide in-depth
information on the recycling of nickel-containing stainless steels: |
