Nickel Magazine, March 2005 -- The appetite for nickel in China is growing by leaps and
bounds. One sector of the economy where growth is readily apparent to the general public is the fast food
industry.
McDonald’s, for example, is expanding into China in big way. It is estimated that 100 new restaurants were
built by the burger chain in this burgeoning new market last year. In addition, the company will build at
least that number of new restaurants again this year, according to an article in The Economist.
Since a standard McDonald’s restaurant uses about two tonnes of
S30400 stainless steel, according to McDonald’s Canada, a significant amount of the nickel-containing
product will be needed for the company’s ambitious expansion plans.
S30400 stainless steel is typically used for food preparation surfaces because it is durable, can be kept
scrupulously clean and does not transfer any unwanted tastes to the food product.
