The member companies of the Nickel Institute know that recycled nickel is vital to a sustainable economy. The various recycling loops described here will be part of that sustainable economy. Occasionally the primary nickel industry will be part of that recycling loop but more often the recovery and recycling will take place elsewhere.

While Nickel Institute member companies have their own internal business activities associated with nickel recycling, the Nickel Institute has the task of increasing the understanding and knowledge of nickel recycling.

And while nickel is already highly recycled, there is room for improvement. The Nickel Institute will try to help that happen.

The Nickel Institute joined with the global mining and metals community in 2006 to issue a "Declaration on Recycling Principles" that seeks to increase the understanding of metals recycling in general.

The following pages deal just with nickel.  They include advice or practical information for anyone with a nickel-containing material or product or with questions about end-of-life management.

Because of the value of nickel, there will usually be a buyer for nickel-containing material. While the Nickel Institute is not a broker and will not participate in commercial transactions, the Nickel Institute will try to offer useful suggestions and offer advice so that even more nickel is recovered and reused by society.
