"Stocks and Flows" Project
September 2002 -- In a contract with the Nickel Institute, the Yale University Center
for Industrial Ecology has begun its study of the stocks (accumulation in products and infrastructure) of
nickel and nickel-containing material in the European Union. As well, the additions to those stocks will be
examined together with how the nickel "flows" through the European Union over the different product
cycles.
This will increase our understanding of where nickel goes in society, how long it stays there, and what
happens to it at end-of-life. Financial assistance from the Government of Canada will allow the scope of the
work to be broadened to include at least some aspects of the Canadian economy as well.
The project is expected to last three years and cost $300,000. The results will be published in peer reviewed
journals.
