In a very short time, China has joined the front ranks of the world’s dairy producers. Milk output in 2010 reached 37.4 million tons, making China the third-largest milk producing country. The current Five Year Plan (ending in 2013) would see this rise to 48 million tonnes. This in turn has resulted in a dramatic increase in the use of nickel-containing stainless steels in the handling and processing of Chinese milk and milk products.
