On 10th February 2012, the European Commission published the amended Annex XVII of REACH including a restriction for 138 classified nickel substances, thereby preventing their sale for consumer use (Commission Regulation 109/2012). As they are used in industrial processes only, the Nickel Institute does not foresee a direct impact on the current production, marketing and use of these nickel substances following this publication.
As a member of the Team Stainless network, the Nickel Institute is pleased to announce its participation and support in marking a century since stainless steels were first created, patented and produced.
The Nickel Institute organized a breakfast debate in the European Parliamenton 23rd November. Hosted by Member of the European Parliament Dr Paul Rübig, the breakfast debate focused on the recent debates on resource efficiency and raw materials and how to link both political debates more closely.

Brussels - 13 February 2012 The Nickel Institute notes the European Commission's publication of an amended Annex XVII of REACH. The new Annex XVII includes restrictions for 138 classified nickel substances, preventing their sale for consumer use.
The Nickel Institute today announced the appointment of Dr. Veronique Steukers as Director, Global Government Affairs and Advocacy.
The European Court of Justice today found no factor to affect the validity of the European Commission's classification of more than 100 nickel compounds. This judgement means that the existing classifications remain in place.
Dr. Peter Cutler, Director of NI Promotion delivered a presentation entitled "The Role of Nickel in Stainless Steel" to members of the Indian Stainless Steel Development Association (ISSDA) and the Delhi Chapter of the Indian Institute of Metals. The presentation was given 14 December 2011 in New Delhi, India.
Nancy Baddoo of SCI (the Steel Construction Institute) gave a presentation on structural stainless steel. The presentation was given on November 9, 2011 in Beijing China.
The presentation "Nickel & Society in the 21st Century" was given by Nickel Institute President Dr. Kevin Bradley. The conference was held in Perth Australia 30 September 2011.
