Designer Henry Koppel’s Complete Vision Comes to a Fine FinishNickel Magazine, June 2008 -- Georg Jensen, an international marketer of luxury goods, is honouring the work of designer Henry Koppel with the creation of a stainless steel bowl and salad servers based on Koppel’s rotund, organic design. Koppel (1918-1981) was a sculptor who started collaborating with Georg Jensen in 1946. The sculpted and organic style of Koppel’s work epitomized post-war Scandinavian design. In the 1970s he designed the original Caravel salad bowl in sterling silver, though it was never produced in quantity. The Caravel pattern, with its simple, smooth, unadorned style is signature Koppel. His Caravel flatware,
created in silver in 1957, has won numerous awards, including the prestigious Der goldene Löffel in 1963. Photos: Georg Jensen
